Another reason I think we are reluctant to rush to reach the milestones that defined adulthood for previous generations, is caused by a combination of three major factors. A. Because of rapidly changing and more flexible social norms and a wider variety of options, we no longer feel pressured into instantly obtaining the "American Dream". Many of us have parents who prefer helping support their overgrown children then facing the empty nest syndrome, and therefore make it rather comfortable for us. And as the numbers of twenty somethings who have not yet "launched" increases, the stigma of laziness and failure decreases because it is so common. B. Many of us are children of divorced parents, have parents who obviously hate their jobs or have lost them, or have parents who had kids before they were emotionally or financially ready, and as a result Agreed.
